The PAR building - the last remaining piece of Kai Tak Airport
would be established as an alternative kind of museum.
The unique and distinct visual system of the Precision Approach
Radar inspires a structure that celebrates, records and displays
the history of the site as an airport. Kai Tak, Hong Kong’s gateway
to the world - embed in the social and physical fabric of the city.
The PAR enclosure becomes the key artefact of the museum.
Building the museum around the PAR means it can be preserved in
its original state, in its original location, establishing the Museum
as a direct link to the past. Other airport artefacts are then
gathered around the shelter of the PAR, the power of the actual
artefact telling the story. The canopy further acts as an instrument
to elevate the visitors and orientate themselves to the past.
